3 reasons autumn means it's time to consider cleaning your carpets

Updated: Mar 2

It's 'spring cleaning', right? Well, yes, but actually, the autumn months are when you should really consider a deep, professional clean for your carpets. Here's why.

1. It's the perfect indoor storm for allergies

Cold days and falling nighttime temperatures make it tempting to close the windows, close the door and crank up the central heating (well, as much as the cost-of-living crisis allows, anyway). But, according to Dr Lisa Ackerley, a professor of environmental health at the University of Salford, falling temperatures, central heating and spending more time indoors can lead to an increase in allergies, as carpet dust mites and potentially harmful microbes multiply.

Reducing ventilation by closing the windows increases the moisture in your home's atmosphere, providing the perfect breeding ground for those mites, bacteria and other allergens.

Vacuuming and opening windows whenever you can (if we're lucky enough to get a nice, clear day when the sun still has some warmth) can help, but deep, professional carpet cleaning in the autumn is the best way to remove those allergens from your home. By choosing a company that uses top-of-the-range, hot-water extraction carpet cleaning equipment, your carpets will only be left slightly damp and will dry within a few hours, even in the colder months.

2. It's wet and muddy outside!

Yes, there are crisp, cool autumn days. But let's face it. Generally, autumn in Yorkshire means our fair share of wet, muddy boots and tracking mulchy leaves back indoors with us. While we might be good at taking our footwear off at the door, the kids aren't always great at remembering and the pets couldn't even if they tried.

Carpet protection treatment, applied after your carpets have been thoroughly cleaned, lasts for up to 12 months and stops dirt from penetrating your carpet fibres, making cleaning up any muddy messes that do happen a breeze.

3. There's still availability for professional carpet cleaners

The lead-up to Christmas is the number one busiest time for professional carpet cleaners, as visitors descend and people naturally want their homes to look their best. Most popular firms will be fully booked, sometimes from mid-November, and deposits can be required to book the coveted pre-Christmas slots. If you don't want to invest in new carpets, especially with the expense of the festive season looming, but do want your home to look its best, a deep, professional clean plus carpet protection in the autumn is the way to go.
